Measurement of Physiological Parameters with ECG and PPG in Wearable Devices

Introduction

Electrocardiography (ECG) is a principle to measure the varying electric field of the myocardal muscle and, thus, to detect the human heart beat. In contrast, the optical principle of photoplethysmography (PPG) measures the light being reflected by the tissues, in particular by blood. Thus, the technique allows to measure the physical pulse, the frequently changing blood volume inside the vessels.

Description

During your thesis, you are part of a team of motivated, young, and internationally oriented researchers. We provide versatile topics for Master’s Theses that are perfect for those who are interested in novel principles for physiological parameter measurement and estimation. It is recommended to already be familiar with hardware and circuit design as well as with low-level software development for embedded microcontrollers in C.

Tasks and Requirements

  • Hardware/circuit design of a prototype
  • Low-level software development for a microcontroller in C
  • Evaluation of prospects and capabilities
  • Sustainable development and documentation
  • Motivated and independent working
